I am currently a grad student at Columbia University here in NYC. I live in Morningside Heights and downstairs from me is an overpriced market. Surrounding this store are numerous dorms and apartments that house grads and undergrads for both Columbia and Barnard.
One sure way to tell that finals have arrived is when you walk into this grocery store and look at the Red Bull cooler.

This refrigerator was full this morning. This photo was taken around 1pm. Save for a few of the larger cans that are $5 a piece, it is now completely empty with no signs of being restocked when I stopped in this evening. I would hate to think of the havoc all of this plays on one’s heart since I am sure it is being mixed in many cases with Ritalin or Adderall, as those were the hot finals drugs when I was in college. I confess that I love Red Bull, but I also realize that sometimes traditional coffee is all you need.

In some South American locales, the local Red Bull is called Speed. Someone offered me a can last night and I kindly declined. It MAY have helped me dance one more hour until some ungodly hour at the local nightclub, but I figured my ability to sleep was more important
Sadly it looks like my ability to continue into the weeeeee hours of the night and function normally the next day are fading. Oh, what aging can do to you….But…all I want to do is have some fun,¨and I got a feeling, I´m not the only one! –Sheryl Crow.
