One of Luis Buñuel’s best films, especially from his Mexican period, is Simon of the Desert (1965). It is fantastically funny film highlighting the absurdity of self-righteousness. Though he ran out of money half way through its production forcing the film to be only 45 minutes in length, it still feels remarkably complete and tight. In tribute to this wonderful film, the New Pornographers parodied the film with their music video for their song, “The Laws Have Changed”. Here is the video (WARNING: It will spoil the film):
